Biography
Germano Ovani creates, with the oil painting technique, portraits characterized by a strong nostalgic component inspired by a passion for ancient black and white photos, generally from the first half of the 20th century, used to investigate the clues of a past in which individual and collective memory overlap and sometimes coincide.
His artistic training began at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino and continued in Great Britain, at the University of Aberystwyth, in Wales. After living in Edinburgh for about fifteen years Germano recently returned to his hometown, Pesaro, where he currently lives and works.
He has exhibited his works both in Italy and Great Britain, most recently at the Italian Cultural Institute in Edinburgh, while one of his works was selected for the annual exhibition of the Royal Scottish Academy.
Moving from one culture to another led him to investigate concepts such as individual, society, culture and power, with a particular interest in the mechanisms, conscious and unconscious, that determine and define the single individual within a society and a historical and cultural context.
Biografia
Germano Ovani realizza, con la tecnica della pittura ad olio, ritratti caratterizzati da una forte componente nostalgica ispirata da una passione per antiche foto in bianco e nero, in genere della prima metà del ‘900, usate per indagare gli indizi di un passato nel quale la memoria individuale e quella collettiva si sovrappongono e a volte coincidono.
La sua formazione artistica è iniziata all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Urbino ed è proseguita in Gran Bretagna, presso l’Università di Aberystwyth, in Galles. Dopo aver vissuto per circa quindici anni a Edimburgo (Scozia), Germano è recentemente tornato nella sua città natale, Pesaro, dove vive e lavora.
Ha esposto i suoi lavori sia in Italia che in Gran Bretagna, più recentemente presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Edimburgo, mentre sua opere sono state selezionate più volte per la mostra annuale della Royal Scottish Academy.
Lo spostarsi da una cultura ad un’altra lo ha portato ad indagare concetti quali individuo, società, cultura e potere, con un interesse particolare verso i meccanismi, consci ed inconsci, che determinano e definiscono il singolo individuo all’interno di una società e di un contesto storico e culturale.
