Paintings
My work, primarily portraits, is characterized by a strong nostalgic element, sparked by a passion for vintage black-and-white photographs, generally from the first half of the 20th century, which I use as a source of inspiration for oil painting. The pictorial reworking of these traces of the past helps me reflect on the idea of memory and concepts such as the individual, society, culture, and power, with an approach that I define as almost anthropological toward the conscious and unconscious mechanisms that shape and define the individual within a society and a historical and cultural context.
Il mio lavoro, principalmente ritratti, è caratterizzato da una forte componente nostalgica suscitata da una passione per antiche foto in bianco e nero, in genere della prima metà del ‘900, che uso come fonte di ispirazione per realizzare opere con la tecnica della pittura ad olio. La rielaborazione pittorica di questi indizi del passato mi aiuta a riflettere sull’idea di memoria e su concetti quali individuo, società, cultura e potere, con un approccio che definisco quasi antropologico verso i meccanismi, consci ed inconsci, che determinano e definiscono il singolo individuo all’interno di una società e di un contesto storico e culturale.
